Bath Pillows
Bath pillows come in more shapes and colors than you could possibly imagine and designed to overcome the apparent ergonomic disadvantages of a regular bathtub, bath pillows are yet another addition to the stable of luxury bath range products.
Over recent years, the concept of bathing has undergone a paradigm shift. Bath salts, essential oils, bath candles, aromatic bath gels and the likes make the whole bathing experience one of an extravagant pampering.
With an ever increasing demand for stress-busting activities, the purpose of bathing is no longer limited to medical hygiene. Bath is now touted as one of the most efficient ways to unwind. Recent research has thrown light on a host of medical benefits that specialized baths have to offer. Spending long hours in a bathtub, especially with the purpose on mind being relaxation, makes the adoption of a comfortable position a necessity. Most of the commercial bathtubs have no design particularly suited to rest the head. And this is where bath pillows come in. Certain bath pillows go a step further, accommodating the neck, shoulders and in some cases, even the entire upper body. The standard bath pillow is usually compatible with almost all bathtub designs and calls for no additional customization.
Also known as bathtub support pillows, bath pillows differ from regular pillows in two significant ways- the exterior of a bath pillow is waterproof and also usually elastic, bath pillows may be filled with air or water. A few brands have further improvised on the product lines by including features such as suction-cup spa pillows, height adjustment and even memory foam bath pillows. Designed by NASA for their space programs, the memory foam pillow has a scientific basis of construction- the material softens when heat is applied. Heat from the human body softens the particular areas, giving in and thus it demands no additional application of pressure.
Instead of viewing the bath pillow as a mere luxury item, it would do much good to take a peek at the therapeutic value it has to offer. Positioning the head awkwardly for long hours could result in disorders such as spondylitis. Use of the bath pillow thus effectively counters this problem.
When it comes to picking bath pillows, a question that fills most people is whether to go for the inflatable model or the non-inflatable. This warrants no professional advice and is merely a question of type of use. If regular use is intended, it would be wise to go in for the non-inflatable model since frequent filling and emptying might prove a hassle otherwise. The obvious advantage that certain inflatable models have is that they may be filled with water or air, depending on the requirement. If this is not the case, the inflatable models are simply preferred for the fact that they occupy much lesser space when deflated.
While bath pillows are not a necessity that one cannot do without, one thing’s for sure-with the changing scenario, bath pillows are clearly no longer limited to the domain of luxury
